THE TINY TOWN: Coupeville, Washington
Coupeville is the second oldest town in Washington. By the way, Steilacoom is the oldest town in Washington, with a population over 6,000. Coupeville sits on Whidbey Island, tucked away in the Penn Cove.
UNIQUE VALENTINE’S DAY DATES IN WENATCHEE
By now most couples have either planned out where they’re going to spend their Valentine’s Day, or they’re currently checking availability at a fancy-like restaurant in town, in hopes that it’ll be another memorable evening. Or for the guys, at least some extra brownie points with their lady and not end up in the doghouse.
THE TINY (TOURIST) TOWN: Winthrop, Washington
Really small towns fascinate me. And the people who live in these small towns likewise interest me. Especially since I’m a big city beach boy from Torrance, California (a suburb of Los Angeles), with a population of 143,000+, within a population of 3.8 million+, where it’s non-stop city for over 160 miles with 172 IN-N-OUT restaurants. So when I stumble upon a tiny town with a population of 400 like Winthrop, Washington, I need to know the history and why are people living there.
ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT ’94 EARTHQUAKE
If you’ve lived anywhere up and down the west coaster some time, from Alaska to Mexico, You’ve experienced a few Earthquakes. I grew up in LA, so all my life I’ve ridden some good ones. One of the most memorial actually happened 29 years ago. January 17, 1994. It famously became the beginning of my, Disneyland Hotel Earthquake Curse.
WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME IN WENATCHEE
One of the things I noticed and loved when I moved to the Wenatchee Valley was that everywhere I went, people were talking to each other as if they were best buds.
YET ANOTHER MOVIE FILMED IN LEAVENWORTH IS COMING IN FEBRUARY
Leavenworth is a great place Hollywood has often visited. They’ve been bringing their cameras to our quaint little German theme town as far back as 1925 with the movie, The Ancient Highway.
COPING WITH WENATCHEE WASHINGTON WINTER WEATHER
When I first moved to the PNW from my home on beaches of Southern California, My friends back home were deeply concerned when I accepted a job in Oregon. “How are YOU gonna survive the dreary sky in Eugene?”
THE TINY TOWN: Wilbur, Washington
Back in the day, Johnny Carson mentioned on the Tonight Show that it was against the law to ride an ugly horse in Wilbur, Washington. Apparently, it’s true. It was signed into law in 1894. But it was repelled 100 years later.
IF AN ASTEROID HIT THE WENATCHEE VALLEY, HOW WOULD IT AFFECT THE REST OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON?
A couple of months ago you might remember that NASA was able to successfully crash their DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft into the asteroid Dimorphos, which deflected the 530 foot rock off its course. The NASA scientist cried (with joy) like I cried (like a baby who needed their diapers changed) watching the Steve Carell/Keira Knightly romantic/drama, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.
THE TINY TOWN: Grace, Washington
If you were to google search Grace, Washington, two things are gonna happen. You’re gonna find 30 stories about someone by the name of Grace Washington or Nancy Grace is reporting on something bad that happened in Washington, long before you find something about this tiny town. Grace sits just off route 522, where if you slow down enough to where the car behind you honks their horn, you’ll see a sign that reads, "Town of Grace. Established in 1906. Population 12".
